I love my Amazon Echo. I love that I can use it as a bluetooth speaker. The bad news, I'm was always in one room, and the Echo was in another.
Not a hard fix, I purchased an Amazon Dot. I love it. There is one situation that I couldn't do with the dot, that I could with the Echo.
I could use the Echo as a bluetooth speaker and I could play my podcasts through the Echo. (I use the overcast.fm app). Not only could I listen, but I could have Alexa pause and resume my playing (which I do alot of as my I work from home, and can somewhat listen to podcasts as I work). The dot doesn't no allow you to use it as a bluetooth speaker as the speaker that is in it, is “OK.”
How to Make My Amazon Echo Portable
I purchased a Portable Battery Base from Mission Cables. Here are the stats
- Easily and securely attaches to base of Echo. Includes soft silicone pad for added protection.
- Up to six hours of playback time.
- Recharges using the Amazon Echo power adapter.
- Intelligent battery management system allows user to leave power adapter continuously plugged into Battery Base without damaging the battery. Enhanced safety features also included.
So now I can bring my echo with me into the office, listen to my podcasts, and later put it back into the living room where I plug it in and it powers the Echo while charging the battery for another day.
It was super easy to install, and it works great. You plug batter base into the Echo, and then slide the Echo into the base.
It has a led to show when it is charging, when the battery is low, and has an on/off switch (so if you want to preserve the battery)
The Portable Battery Base for the Amazon Echo from Mission Cables is $49
Now I Can Control My Phone With My Echo
So now I just listen to my podcasts, and when I need to stop I ask Alexa to pause. When I'm ready I ask her to resume. All you have to do is go to your bluetooth settings and connect to your Echo.
I love it.
